Sunday was a great day. Let's take a look.
Lately, I've been hitting the Melrose Place Farmers Market on Sunday--which I love. However, yesterday I went up to the Hollywood Farmers Market.
And I was reminded it is one of the best places on Earth. Seriously. While one of the greatest things about living in L.A. is the abundance incredible of (cheap) produce and farmers markets (literally) every day. But the Hollywood Market (and its sister, the Santa Monica Market) is an entirely different animal.
Not only can you find baby kale--but multiple varieties of baby kale, plus radishes, beets and yes, that is four kinds of cauliflower--cheddar, purple, white and romanesco. Wow.
I spotted this sticker on the back of a car. I love how she's reading a book AND has no boobs. Take that, rednecks.
Next, I met up with one of my oldest and dearest friends, Bob Watanabe. Bob was down from Seattle for a Kings hockey game at Dodger Stadium. Yes, set up on a baseball field was a pro-level hockey rink, alongside a volleyball tournament, and of yes--KISS was playing, too.
I wouldn't have believe it all happened if Bob had not showed me photos. This is probably not the kind of thing that will ever be documented on this blog, but it was interesting, nonetheless.
Bob had challenged me to find the best Korean BBQ for this visit--no small task. L.A,'s Koreatown is vast, with hundreds of restaurants. I decided to keep it simple and opted for Park's BBQ, which is supposed to be one of the best. It was mighty good.
After lunch, we hit up Cafecito Organico in Silverlake. I was totally remiss in leaving off my last list of favorite coffee spots. I love the Silverlake location, and there's also one in Malibu, which is refreshing after a tough day at the beach.
I love these little red, puffy flowers...
...and the sunset from Lake Hollywood.
I ended the day with a very interesting--but largely
unseen--movie from 2013 called Berberian Sound Studio, starring Toby
Jones, about an English sound artist who travels to Italy to work on one of those crazy Italian horror films.
I've talked before about movies that make you go "Hmmm..." as the credits roll but linger in your head for many days afterwards. This is not only one of those flicks, but is actually about a film seeping into your consciousness--and driving you batshit crazy. For those of you who don't like entertainment predictable or spoon-fed to you, I highly recommend this movie.
OK, that's it. See you again!
