queens of the blues.

Two songs of the day, both by bluesy gals, both about crappy husbands, both cracking me up as I drive to work.

Koko Taylor, often dubbed "The Queen of Blues," was one of the few women to reign over the Chicago blues scene. She was discovered by Willie Dixon and rose to fame with a version of his song "Wang Dang Doodle." It also kicks ass. She influenced many artists such as Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt,  appeared in the films Blues Brothers 2000, Wild at Heart and died in 2009. Her voice continues to be a force of nature.

Koko doesn't mind if you take her husband, but DO NOT mess with her man. Just to be clear, they are two different dudes.

You Can Have My Husband

After the death of Ms. Taylor, Denise LaSalle was anointed queen of the Chicago blues. She has written, recorded and produced records steadily since her first hit "A Love Reputation" in 1968.

Here she informs some unlucky lady that the dude they are sharing has stepped out on both of them. Awkward.
