love #11

How is it Thursday already? My God, this year is flying by. Can't believe it's almost Memorial Day, but I'm grateful it's been a true Gray May kind of week. I've put together a few things to love today--hoping you love them, too. Let's take a look.

1. Tokyo's Mina Perhonen is one of my favorite designers right now. Here are a few styles from her Spring/Summer 2015 collection. Simple shapes, bold patterns, shifts to throw on hot summer days--you get the picture.

2. Remember VHS tapes? Well, they're back...er, in a way...courtesy of artist Philip Ob Rey. His new exhibit V (On view in Berlin until tomorrow--hurry! Jet on over!) follows monolithic giants traipsing through post-apocalyptic desolation (it's shot in Iceland). The figures are wrapped in old VHS tapes--and created from other materials such as shells, stones and seaweed. It's a fascinating glimpse of the world after mankind, where the detritus of our society takes on a life of its own.

3. Love Empathy Cards by L.A.-based designer Emily McDowell, a collection of sentiments she wishes she had received when she was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin's lymphoma. I can relate.

4. Reading (and loving) The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker, It's a historical fantasy set in New York City, a la Winter's Tale. Just started, but so far it's pretty great.

5. Love Food Gradients, a photo series by Seattle photographer and cook Brittany Wright, natural foods arranged in a spectrum of colors. They are so beautiful and pleasing to the eye (although it has to a bitch to set these up--man!). Sigh.

6. Your Dog of the Week is....Rocky! House- and crate-trained, this 4-year-old, stocky, little Westipoo loves to run and play! He's available to adopt from Dogs Without Borders today.

That's all for today. I'm hoping to be back tomorrow with some fun stuff to do this weekend.

Love, Lexa.
