Hello, and welcome back!

Today we are loving the work of UK artist Bridget Davies. I've long been a fan of her fashion illustrations, and I may have featured them on the blog before. But I'm not quite sure. In any case, her pieces are so beautiful, they are worth spotlighting again.

Influenced by a love for paper dolls as a child and the glamorous illustrations of the 40s and 50s as a budding artist, Davies' work is a marvel of water and ink, a union of fashion and art. As she says in her artist statement:

"While the constantly changing face of fashion doesn’t preoccupy me,
the silhouette and detail of  women’s fashion is a major source of
inspiration for me. Layering personal experience with ideas from
literature and conversation, I use the genre of fashion painting to
create scenarios and characters that I would best describe as visual
anecdotes, blended fact and fiction that tell secret stories drawn from
                  my own presence and desires."

Davies' illustrations are whimsical and deceptively simple, yet they have a unique depth, transporting you to a more glamorous world of gowns, parties and witty conversations (about literature, of course). You can see more of Davies' art at her site and at Saatchi Art

And a few more things to love today.

This Japanese couple has been married for 37 years and coordinate their outfits every day. They've only been on Instagram for three months, but already have a following of 435,000! How cute are they! Via My Modern Met.

I love these posters for The Wicker Man, a favorite film of mine.

And I would love to attend this double show at Team Gallery in Venice on April 23rd: Robert Janitz, Hypothetical Types of Biochemsistry and McDermott & McGough: Hollywod (Homosexual) Hopeful. More details here.

Hope to see you there! And I'll see you back here soon, with more to love. xoL

Hello and Happy Tuesday!

We are back, and today we are loving the paintings of California artist Clare Elsaesser. I came across one of her works on Pinterest and was immediately drawn to a style that's both whimsical and haunting. I especially love her series of figures burying their faces in flowers. The hidden visage is running theme in all her paintings. They're eerie, seductive, and I love them. Clare's etsy shop is filled with stunning (and reasonably priced) pieces--check them out.

And just a few more things to love.

This past weekend, I attended the most incredible experimental dance performance evereachmore presented by The Bowtie Project. Bowtie is a collaboration between Clockshop and the California State Parks to bring art and performance to a recently-opened area next to the L.A. River just off of Frogtown and Glassell Park. Clockshop is an L.A.-based organization that hosts art events illuminating political and cultural ideas.

evereachmore is the creation of the amazing taisha paggett and local dance troupe WXPT. It was an exploration and celebration of ethnicity and queer identity. Instead of being performed on a traditional stage, the dancers rose up from the banks of the river, "migrating" to a sacred circle as the audience mingled and followed the performers for almost a mile. The result was both epic and intimate.

Today I was thrilled to discover China has a Watermelon Museum. Founded in 2002 and located just south of Beijing in one of the largest watermelon-harvesting areas in the world, the museum focuses on the history and culture of this wonderful, refreshing fruit.

I just love that a Watermelon Museum exists somewhere on our planet.

And I love this photograph of Blondie.

That's all for now. I'll see you soon! Love, Lexa.

So, I added a little Mextures to this photo, but I posted an unfiltered version on Instagram...and the sky really was that blue. People always talk about the "smog" in L.A., but these days, since everyone drives a grey Prius exactly like my grey Prius (seriously, parking lots are a bitch), it's not so much smog, but the haze that comes from being in a basin.

I love winter in Los Angeles, because you can always wee the snow-capped mountains behind downtown. I'll try and get a shot of them soon.
