Iverson's unique paintings are often called dystopian or apocalyptic, but I feel like there is something that's both deeper and more subtle at work here. Her breathtaking landscapes are dotted with shipping containers and often ships themselves--sinking or crashing into their natural surroundings. These pieces have a feel that's both historical and futuristic--a pattern throughout the eras of history, underscored by the graph lines that crisscross and run through her paintings. It's nature on the brink of collapse, rudely interrupted by the industrial and commercial worlds. And yet, it's clear that the natural world will always endure; it's still far more powerful than any of the man made forces constantly working against it.
