sunday.

Want to know what it Sunday in January in L.A. looks like? Like this.

Yesterday I drove over to my friend Ellie's in Santa Monica and we went hiking in Los Liones AND took a little spin around the Self Realization Center in Pacific Palisades. I love hiking the trails in L.A. and discovering new ones, and I've always wondered what went on behind the gates of the New Age-y paradise. Both were just lovely and exactly what I needed on a lazy weekend where I was feeling a little blech-y.

Los Liones was one of those extraordinary places where, when you reach the top you can see the ocean all the way to Catalina Island. Then you turn and look behind you and--bam--snow covered mountains. You have to live here to find that out. Nobody tells you. They just complain what a smoggy hell the city is. I know most people come here to get rich and famous really, really fast, but so many stay because they can surf in the morning, take a three-hour drive and snowboard in the afternoon. I neither surf nor snowboard, and still I find this fascinating and appreciate it.

Ellie and I agreed that the Self-Realization Center was not only a spiritual haven, but make a mind-blowingly awesome place to get married. There was a lake with ducks, swans and turtles. There were waterfalls. There was a windmill! People just kicked it on benches and meditated. It was very quiet, as you could imagine. And that's another thing I love. I think people end up being so spiritually bankrupt from seeking fame and fortune, they are ultimately forced to "seek" in another way. And while the rest of the world's population does that by cracking open a good book, Angelenos create things like Scientology and the Dream Center and the Forum, shit like that. But it's kind of fun. And I really like to do yoga and meditate. I sit quietly for 10 minutes every morning and it changes my whole day. Love it.
