I am starting to look for a home here in L.A., so I went over to one of my favorite neighborhoods this weekend to check it out. Highland Park is lovely, with scads of hilly streets dotted with charming bungalows. Originally I thought I had better stick to low-maintenance condos because I am lazy, but now I'm wondering if I don't want to jump in and buy an honest-to-God house.

I checked out this beautiful Craftsman above, which was seriously run down and right across the street from the metro tracks, but hey, it was in my price range. It made me want to run into the nearest telephone booth, emerge as Bob Villa, armed with tool belt and paint brush, and get to work on this place.

Now, to find a phone booth.
