change.

They say it's good, right?

Because I've been going through a lot of change lately. I think I mentioned that New Year's was very low-key and uneventful, but the following two months have proven to be anything but.

It began with completely cleaning out the office at work, because we were moving into a new (and much cozier) space. At first, it scared the crap out of me, but then I got into it. I realized how much unnecessary crap I was hanging on to, and it felt so liberating to let it all go.

The purge extended to my home life. Ever since I can remember, I've been surround by books, and one night I looked around my apartment and realized--these puppies take up a lot of space.

My co-worker suggested I start selling them on Amazon and gave me a brief tutorial. It's surprisingly simple. I took three book shelves down to one, and took the shelves themselves ("shelves themselves--ha!) to the local Out of the Closet. Then I had a party.

I also made a stop at The Iliad Bookshop in North Hollywood. Seriously, do people in L.A. know about this place. Tucked back on Cahuenga deep in NoHo, it's like our very own The Strand or Powell's books. And it's (almost) within walking distance--perfect for a book fix when I need it.

Nuisms

I celebrated by buying art (since I now have so much more wall space). The piece is by my friend Jeff Newman. When I saw it at his show last year, I knew it was the perfect way to represent the completion of my cancer journey.

And what do you think of these views from my new office? Pretty spectacular, eh? I look out over the city, and it feels almost European to me. My life really hasn't changed too much (at least not on the outside) in quite awhile, so I'm welcoming this new era. It's exciting.

Another area of clean-up has been the bookmarks in my browser--I've got some really interesting stuff tabbed, and I don't think I've ever put it up on the blog. So, stay tuned for a new Love List featuring some wonderful art, books and blogs from my archives.
