hermosa beach.

Today I'm loving the Instagrams of my dear friend Connie.

Connie was once the Creative Director of Dayton Hudson Marshall Field's back in the department stores' heyday, before it all became Macy's North. She hired me as a temp, then suggested I give fashion copywriting a go. I did, and today I am still scribbling about glamorous items you need in your closet ASAP.

Connie lived and breathed creativity--one entire wall of her office was a collage of design mementos and generally cool, beautiful things. Connie herself was always cool. I never once saw her lose her composure, despite the furious (and often ugly) atmosphere of the retail world.

Flash forward--Connie moved on to--and retired from--Target, and today she does what every Minnesotan wants to do: leave Minnesota from January to April. For many years, she made Manhattan Beach her snowbird home, but this year, she's moved on up to Hermosa Beach.

I love these snaps, because they express someone who is simply happy to be--be near the ocean, be in the sun, be on the boardwalk with the surfers, skaters and beach goers. Someone is happy to NOT be in three feet of snow and ten-below-zero temps.

So, enjoy these photos and BE.

All photos by Connie Soteropulos (her account is private so no link!)

More to love today:

40 vintage photos of Frida Kahlo at Bust.

Today's movies & tv re-imagined as old VHS tapes.

The HARD Closing Ceremony is Saturday, April 4th at the Exact Science Gallery, 7565 Melrose, 6-11 p.m.

Also on Saturday--DSTLD hosts the SIP/SHOP Collective Pop-Up at DNM BAR: LA, 8899 Beverly Boulevard, West Hollywood from 1-5 p.m. Listen to music and sip cocktails (in the afternoon!) while you stock up on warm weather essentials.

Currently reading this book, and it is insanely good.

Love,

Lexa
