sew wandering.

Hello! Welcome back. I'm really excited to talk about my latest discovery: Sew Wandering.

Teresa Lim is a Singapore-based artist who combines illustration and embroidery to create the loveliest works of textile art. Her series "Sew Wanderlust" documents her travels around the world with embroidered "postcards" from the many places she's visited. Seriously, these global vignettes are off the chain. You can see more of her stunning pieces at her site on on her Instagram.

swimmer.

Hi there, and welcome back. Hope your week is looking good.

Today we are loving the paintings of swimmers by Colombian artist Pedro Covo. They're the definition of tranquil, wouldn't you say? I love how the shades of blue and green meld with the nudes, the same way bodies do when they splash into water. There's something so peaceful about swimming alone in your personal watering hole. Covo paints other portraits and nudes, too, with the same mesmerizing sweeps of color and abstract brush strokes. You can see more of his work at his site and on Instagram. into the wild.

Hey there--we're back. Hope you're enjoying the week, and here's a little something to get you to Friday.

I've been wanting to feature the work of artist Andreas Lie for quite some time. These unique prints blend portraits of wild animals and double exposed photographs of forests, mountains--even the Northern Lights. I would imagine these are all common sights in the artist's home of Norway. I like to imagine myself hiking the fjords at nighttime, bears and coyotes galloping at my side.

The details of the photos often mesh perfectly with the texture of the animals' coats. It's as if nature is encompassed within the animal, fading into their silhouettes. If you've been reading this blog for any length of time, you know I love that kind of thing.

Lie's work has been featured on Beautiful Decay, UFunk, This is Colossal and many other art sites. His pieces are available as prints and on other assorted merchandise at Society6.

at the drive-in.

I love At the Drive-In, series of paintings of Andrew Valko, depicting a remote drive-in theater (my guess is in Texas) showing films from both the silver-screen and modern eras. Painted over many years, the collection feels like a film itself, of the small-town noir variety (one of my favorites!).

I especially love the details--a mix of vintage and modern cars, movie icons, concession stands and gas stations that give it all a desolate, lost-in-time feel.

love #5.

It's time for a new Love List. Let's take a look at what we are loving at TT&CF.

Love pho. There's a great article here on dineLA on where to find the good stuff--all but one are in the San Gabriel Valley. However, my friend Fran and I stumbled upon It's Pho! (love those crazy pho word plays) on Cahuenga in Hollywood, and it was very, very satisfying.

Love Viggo Mortensen and love Oscar Isaac. So, I'm LOSING MIND MY MIND that they are in a movie together--The Two Faces of January, based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith. You know it's going to be good.

I came across this article in the L.A. Times on literary film adaptions for 2014. In addition to January, I'm most looking forward to The November Man with Pierce Brosnan and John Le Carré's A Most Wanted Man with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Rachel Adams.

I love spy movies.

Viggo Mortensen, Oscar Isaac and Kirsten Dunst in Patricia Highsmith's
"The Two Faces of January."

Love crazy neon signs. Check out this article on L.A. Curbed on this city's landmark signs. I was happy to see North Hollywood's scary booze clown made the cut.

Love, love, love the dresses of Plenty by Tracy Reese, found at ModCloth.

Love starting a new book--really excited about this one.

Love this photo of Neko Case looking baddass in what seems like skeleton leggings at Sasquatch! Festival 2014.

I'm still loving the haunting photography of Saul Leiter. Here is one more.

Love the Nashville home of Libby Callaway, featured on The Selby.

That's all for now, guys, but I'm coming back soon.

friday.

Hello! And happy Friday. I found a couple of events I would LOVE to attend tonight, but alas, I am spending the entire day being infused with all kinds of chemotherapy. However, that doesn't mean you can't check out these fabulous shows.

REDCAT kicks off a new exhibition called Apotomē by artists Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla with an artist talk and performance. I can't possibly do this justice by trying to explain, so just click here to check it out. It amazes me where the human mind can go.

If something musical is more your speed, head on over to the Norton Simon Museum for their Summer Music Series. It's free with the price of museum admission, and the concerts are fantastic--listening to classical music surrounded by some of history's greatest works of art. Tomorrow night, cellist Maksim Velichkin plays pieces by Hans Werner Henze, Gaspar Cassadó and Los Angeles 21st composer George N. Gianopoulos.

Seriously, I have been to one of these before, and it is so so so so cool. Stroll the gardens, check out the Matisses and Van Goghs, chill with some music--and then head out to dinner.
