Ellison was a soul singer in the 60s and 70s and recorded only a few hit records.
Her two biggest songs, Stay With Me and Try (Just a Little Bit Harder) were both covered by Janis Joplin.
Ellison left the music business to tend to her mother and died in 1983 at the age of 51 from ovarian cancer.
