Today we are loving the mindbending-ly beautiful, space-themed paintings of Michael Kagan. Spacesuits, control panels and rockets launching are created with the most intricate brushstrokes and details, all bathed in a palette of blues. I love how these works illuminate the incomprehensible vastness of space through the instruments man has made to explore it. The notes from his show "Thunder in the Distance" at the Joshua Liner Gallery state:
"Kagan paints man-made objects and machinery: a rocket, a racecar,
a spacesuit, the cockpit of a space shuttle. The artist appreciates that
these very same objects— developed through scientific achievement
over many years—could instantly kill the operator. The artist never
goes back over what he has painted; the brushstrokes mimic, in some
ways, the immediate consequence of the imagery."
Personally, I'd much rather look at these paintings than ever sit through Gravity again. I think even Kubrick would be in awe of Michael Kagan. You can see more of his work at his site and on Instagram. Via This is Colossal.

And two gallery shows to love tonight (Thursday, September 10th): Miles Aldridge at Fahey/Klein.

That's all for now. I'll be back soon with more to love. xoL
